Scorpio

Scorpio rarely does anything halfway: it wants to know what's really going on, and its loyalty tends to be all or nothing.

How Scorpio tends to show up

Scorpio is water that runs deep and still: a water sign that's also fixed, so feelings tend to sink in and stay instead of passing through. Traditional astrology gives it Mars, the same ruler as Aries, and here Mars works below the surface, as resolve rather than speed. Modern astrology adds Pluto, linked with what's hidden and with the power to change a situation at its root.

Small talk seldom holds Scorpio's interest. It would rather have one real conversation at 2 a.m. than twenty polite ones, and it can usually hear what people mean under what they say. Privacy matters: it tends to share a lot with very few people and very little with everyone else. When a situation needs turning around, Scorpio often has the nerve to do it, and the stamina to see it through.

All that depth has a cost. Scorpio can grip too tightly and keep score of old hurts for years, often without a word. Letting trust build a little at a time works better than testing people to see if they deserve it. It helps to say what hurts instead of holding it in, and to let what's over be over.
