How a solar return works
Once a year, the Sun comes back to the exact point in the zodiac where it was when you were born. That moment is your solar return, and it falls within a day or so of your birthday, not always on the day itself. Astrologers cast a chart for that minute, usually for the place where you spend your birthday.
In traditional astrology, that chart describes the year until your next solar return. Its rising sign, also called the Ascendant, is the sign coming up over the eastern horizon at that moment, and it sets the year's tone. Each of the chart's twelve houses stands for an area of life, and the one the Sun falls in shows where the year's focus lies. Use it as a mirror for the months ahead, not a forecast.
